As part of an initiative to create a better and safer environment for residents of the Corstorphine and Carrick Knowe area south of St. John’s Road, the City of Edinburgh Council ran a consultation in early 2021 that gathered feedback from residents, businesses and visitors who spend time in the area.
They wanted to find out about:
- Travel behaviours
- Issues with transport and travelling in the area
- Perceptions on walking, cycling and wheeling
- Access to and use of greenspace in the area
- Where people want to travel to and from
- Opportunities for improvement
Called Corstorphine Connections (also known as the Corstorphine South LTN), this is part of the Low Traffic Neighbourhoods programme that includes East Craigs (now on hold) and Leith.
Following the completion of the phase 1 road changes, the trial project commenced on 24 May 2023. These changes aim to make the areas streets feel safer and easier for walking, wheeling, cycling and spending time in by reducing the amount of non-residential through traffic.
The trial includes 6 months of open public consultation plus monitoring to assess the impact of the trial. ONGOING ACTION
Over and above the consultations, it’s important to make sure our voices continue to be heard. One of the most effective things you can do if you are in favour of low traffic neighbourhoods in our area is to engage with your local representatives by writing to your City of Edinburgh Councillors, the community council, MSP and MP, and by attending your local Community Council meetings.
