This week saw the launch of City of Edinburgh Council’s placemaking engagement for the Corstorphine LTN (Low Traffic Neighbourhood), which will run until Sunday 14th November at midnight.
LTNs make residential neighbourhoods safer, more attractive and inclusive for people who would like to walk, cycle and wheel. They create spaces for people to play and socialise, help people connect to local amenities and are key to reducing pollution and improving health.
The placemaking engagement gives residents the opportunity to give further detailed feedback on the look and feel of the changes that the LTN would introduce. This builds on the feedback from the last two stages of engagement and includes aspects like seating, planting and other street furniture.
It is important to note that this is separate to the statutory Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) public consultation which is to follow. It is also separate to door-to-door engagement that they are holding with residents who live at the specific locations of the planned LTN changes. This door-to-door engagement is to fine tune designs around hyper-local aspects like driveway accesses.
As part of the placemaking engagement the Council has already run engagement sessions with the local primary schools.
The placemaking engagement will also comprise three on-street engagement sessions on Friday 5th November, an online survey (paper copies available and already in process for those who have previously requested them), presenting at the community council, the local business group and Edinburgh Access Panel.
